Exercise tests plans for evacuation and shelter

How would multiple agencies come together to provide safe evacuation and shelter during a Major Incident?

This was the scenario played out during our latest LRF training exercise which tested the effectiveness of multi-agency evacuation and shelter processes, when faced with a complex, large-scale emergency.

Representatives from 14 partner organisations were asked to coordinate evacuation and shelter operations within confined parameters, which included:
•    Managing limited resources, such as staff and vehicles
•    Analysing interdependencies between evacuation, shelter and wider strategic coordination
•    Sourcing mutual aid to support displaced populations
•    Making arrangements for supporting vulnerable people

Learnings and feedback from the day will be used to review and strengthen our emergency response plans for incidents which call for the evacuation and/ or shelter of local people.
