Free webinar to help prepare for power cuts and water outages
What would you do if you were left without power or water for several days?
As winter approaches, people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are being asked to think about how they’d cope with a prolonged loss of utilities like gas, electricity or water – and to make sure they’re prepared.
A free webinar on ‘Preparing for Utility Outages’ will be held on Tuesday 29 September (and repeated on 14 October), as part of our Risk Ready Communities initiative.
A loss of utilities can cause disruption to homes and businesses and could affect:
- telecommunications, mobile phones and internet services
- banking services, like ATMs and card payments
- petrol stations and traffic controls
- the ability of emergency and health services to respond and maintain services
Alice Moorcroft-Hughes, Delivery Manager for Risk Ready Communities, said: “Our national and local utility systems are strong but they can be affected by faults, cyber attacks or other disruptions.
“It’s always a good idea to be prepared for the worst, just in case. Small steps like keeping a list of emergency phone numbers handy or getting a supply of bottled water can make all the difference, if the worst happens.”
