Partners team up on transport exercise

Emergency services and government organisations have taken part in a live exercise to rehearse responding to a large transport incident.

Leads from East Midlands Ambulance Service, Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue and National Highways joined forces for the event at Kendrew Barracks last month.

The exercise scenario was built around a collision on a simulated stretch of the M1 involving an overturned coach and 10 cars. Dozens of live casualties were played by Casualties’ Union volunteers and students from Loughborough College and Leicester College.

The scenario was designed to test the ability of the emergency services to work together at a large scale incident and the effectiveness of the plans each agency has in place.

Councils, emergency services, NHS and other partners work together as part of the Local Resilience Forum to prepare for and respond to emergencies and help communities to recover.
