The power of planning: Resilience team finesses emergency plan
To prepare for events like this, the LRF’s dedicated Resilience Partnership team has a range of major incident plans in place to support local authorities – and tests them regularly.
One of the team’s rest centre plans was the latest to be put to the test in a recent tabletop exercise. The exercise allowed officers to fine tune the plan by practising the procedures for setting up the rest centre, allocating staff and volunteers, and identifying any gaps in a multi-agency response.
Andrew Murr, LRF Training, Exercising and Organisational Learning Officer, said: “The LRF has a range of comprehensive plans in place to help activate a swift and effective multi-agency response to incidents across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This includes plans for the establishment of rest centres if people have to leave their homes or need a safe place to shelter, for whatever reason.
Exercises like this help us to finesse and update our plans to make sure the partner organisations of the LRF can act quickly and safely when needed, in order to protect lives, property and wellbeing.
Participants used interactive tabletop kits provided by REACT-XR to help visualise and plot an effective response.
