Take Flood Action this Winter - Become a Flood Warden
At a series of flooding drop-in events across Leicestershire, more people are being encouraged to sign up as flood wardens, where they can play a key role in their community before, during and after a flood.
Flood wardens:
- Make local people aware of flood risks and warning alerts
- Keep responder agencies informed of flood risks and live flood situations
- Support their community to recover from a flood, including passing information to investigators
- Do NOT attend rescues or enter flood water.
These flood drop-in events are a timely reminder that everyone should think about their own flood risks and what to do if they are affected by flooding.
There are lots of simple things that people can do to be ‘flood ready’, like signing up for flood warnings, moving valuable items upstairs and having a household emergency plan containing information like key contacts.
We also need people to volunteer as flood wardens to be the first point of communication and support for their communities before, during and after a flood.
We're also urging communities to create their own community response plans to ensure they’re prepared for a range of emergency situations, including flooding.
