Develop a Community Response Plan
When a wide scale major incident occurs, the emergency services have to focus their resources on helping the most vulnerable and those most severely affected, particularly when lives are at risk. It is therefore possible that your community might be affected but not receive immediate assistance, so we want to encourage you to be in a position to help yourself and others in those exceptional circumstances.

Preparing for emergencies
Communities can do a great deal to help themselves, to support each other and to safeguard their most vulnerable members.
A Community Response Plan will help you to identify the skills, knowledge and resources that can be utilised to help those within the community who have been impacted.
To support your community, you can:
- check whether there is a Community Response Plan in your area with your town / parish council. If this isn’t applicable to where you live, you can approach your Tenants or Resident’s Association, or similar, to see what plans are in place
- If there is a plan in your area – why not get involved
- If there isn’t one – use our template to create a Community Response Team and Plan
- consider who should be involved to help you write your Community Response Plan
- contact us for any additional help and support you might need
